SILENT NIGHT

John Woo is back with a film that can be described as a silent immersion to one man's slow descent into the darkness after the death of his child - from grief towards single-minded vengeance. This action-packed film is a masterpiece and the best thing about it is that there are almost zero spoken lines in the film. And the ones that were spoken are the most powerful lines ever.

There's one that's very memorable, when Godlock (Joel Kinnaman) got home for the first time after spending a month in the hospital and realized that his son is not there anymore. You can feel all the pain rushing in, and then Godlock, who is now voiceless because of the gunshot wound he suffered, asked her wife for help without a sound. And her wife Saya (Catalina Sandino Moreno) answered "how?" while crying.

Both Kinnaman and Moreno deserve a citation for their work in Silent Night.

Anyway, there's nothing like a good old-fashioned revenge action movie to liven up the holiday spirit. (or not) But SILENT NIGHT is more than just some mindless action film - it's artistic in every sense and very much deserves an audience.
