Another Pepe Diokno and Ricky Lee masterpiece! The way to fully enjoy this film is to know where it's coming from. This is based on the critically acclaimed stage musical that was based on the award-winning 1982 movie HIMALA which stars Nora Aunor. If you've watched the film and not the stage prod, then it will feel a bit weird. If you loved the stage musical then I'm sure you'll agree that this one's on a different level! An ensemble cast of the best Filipino thespians and singers, performing the "rock" versions of the musical - it is the closest experience we could get to being an integral part of the whole prod. You know what's going to make this film epic, and I'm not sure if it's possible, I think they should've added choreographed dance in some of the songs. I know it's unorthodox but that could've made the experience even more memorable for me. Nevertheless, this one's for the books! This deserves a lot of cinema audience and I'm pretty sure a significant number of citations from MMFF and the film community.
